AFL first played in Eden 1939

The first cup “Australian Rules Football” Knockout Competition Eden, 12.06.39. Donated by D. Impey. Doug Impey had the ‘Hotel Australasia’ in Eden in those days. The teams that competed for the cup were Mallacoota, Genoa, Cann River and Eden. When matches were played at Eden, they were played where the current ground is but were played in an east/west direction, incorporating the current soccer field.

Eden Whalers AFL Club - 1983

Australian Football in the Bega Valley Shire began with unofficial social matches between Wyndham and Wolumla. The first game of an Eden AFL team was held on June 18 at Bega Showground against Wolumla. In September of 1983 a Lightening Premiership was held at Bega Showground involving what was now 8 teams, Wolumla, Wyndham, Pambula, Merimbula, Eden, RSL Diggers, Tathra and Narooma.

With a robust membership of approximately 150 individuals, spanning various age groups and skill levels, the Eden Whalers AFL Club embodies the true essence of Australian Rules Football. It serves as a hub for fostering enduring friendships and promoting strong sporting values. The Eden Whalers AFL Club boasts an impressive history of premiership wins.

The Eden Whalers AFL Club boasts an impressive history of premiership wins. In the year 2000, the Reserve Grade team emerged as champions and, followed by the U17s clinching the title in 2001. The winning streak continued with the U14s securing the championship in 2003. In 2005, it was a double triumph as both the U15s and U17s teams claimed victory. The U17s once again stood tall as champions in 2006, followed by the U13s team earning their title in 2007.

The Eden Whalers AFL Club boasts an impressive history of premiership wins. In the year 2000, the Reserve Grade team emerged as champions, followed by the U17s clinching the title in 2001. The winning streak continued with the U14s securing the championship in 2003. In 2005, it was a double triumph as both the U15s and U17s teams claimed victory. The U17s once again stood tall as champions in 2006, followed by the U13s team earning their title in 2007.

The club’s dedication to excellence extended to its women’s teams, with the Women’s division claiming victory in 2016, 2017, and 2018. The men’s Reserve Grade won the premiership in 2015. In 2020, the Men’s Division 2 team added another championship to the club’s accolades. The year 2022 saw a remarkable achievement, with both the Men’s Division 2 and Youth Girls teams securing well-deserved championship titles. These successes serve as a testament to the Eden Whalers’ enduring commitment to the AFL sport and the community.
